X. The Wheel of Fortune

Change, destiny, cycles, karma, turning point.

The Wheel of Fortune embodies the absolute law of continuous change and evolution. It reminds us that nothing in the universe is static, and cycles of ups and downs are necessary to keep the mechanism of life spinning.

X. The Wheel of Fortune

Archetype and General Meaning

The Wheel of Fortune is the moment of awakening to the consciousness of the universal laws governing the world. It resembles the archetype of Fate (the Moirai or Norns spinning threads) and the infinite cycles of nature. This card marks a turning point in the Fool's journey (it ends the first ten cards to enter a deeper level in the second ten). It signifies destiny (karma), good luck or bad luck, which, however, are not coincidences, they are the movement of the gears of a higher plan. Today you are at the top of the wheel, tomorrow at the bottom, but the axis remains the center, the silent observer independent of the external winds of fate.

Psychology and Inner World

The need for constant movement, adaptation, and change resonates incredibly strongly in your psyche. Routine is an unnatural state for you. You get bored quickly. You are characterized by flexibility and a sense that life is a kind of exciting casino. You may have understood very early in life that you have no control over external factors, and paradoxically, this has given you immense freedom. You are an observer who calmly accepts the "surprises" served by the Universe, always trying to find a favorable vector for yourself in them.

Potential

Your greatest gift is the ability to spot opportunities, the so-called "momentum."

  • The gift of timing: You instinctively know when to enter a project and when to withdraw capital. You have the rare ability to be in the right place at the right time.
  • Bouncing back from the bottom: For you, bankruptcy is just the starting point to conquer the next mountain. You never give up for good.
  • Evolutionary optimism: You are a catalyst for change; you bring in new energy and challenge established structures (like a Uranian lightning bolt).

Shadow

The unintegrated vibration of the Wheel is being at the mercy of fate without one's own center. The shadow manifests in fatalism ("nothing depends on me, why bother") and a perpetual victim mentality. It can also be gambling, extreme irresponsibility, and adrenaline addiction (seeking constant revolutions). You run away from foundational work, believing that the "magic" wheel will spin again and you will win the lottery, instead of taking responsibility for steering your own carriage.

Relationships and Emotions

In love, you can be fickle, because you yourself are like the weather. Your partner must understand that in your life, phases of immense commitment and excitement naturally intertwine with phases of quiet down. Relationships built on this vibration are full of unexpected plot twists, moves, crazy ideas, and incredible, "karmic" coincidences in the story of how you met. The biggest challenge for you is staying in the relationship when the wheel naturally descends toward the gray prose of everyday life and novelty is lacking.

Symbolism

  • The Wheel itself: Continuous movement, mandalas of life cycles. Represents infinity and the repetition of lessons until they are learned (reincarnation, karma).
  • The letters T-A-R-O (Taro/Rota/Tora) intertwined with the Hebrew Tetragrammaton (YHVH): They mean "The Law of Tarot speaks", universal knowledge encoded in time cycles and divine order.
  • Four creatures in the corners (Angel, Eagle, Bull, Lion with books): Symbols of the 4 evangelists, the 4 fixed signs of the zodiac (Aquarius, Scorpio, Taurus, Leo), representing the elements and the four corners of the world, as well as the Akashic records.
  • The Snake and Anubis on the wheel: The Snake Set (descending/destructive force) and Anubis/Hermanubis (ascending/rebirthing force), constantly changing positions, represent the cycle of birth and death.
  • The Sphinx at the top (sword and balance): This is the center, the unchanging principle, wisdom, finding balance in the midst of eternally spinning opposites.

Example of Action in Life

Imagine an actor who, after 10 years of playing minor roles, gets a huge part. He becomes a star; he is at the very top (the wheel is up). Suddenly, a scandal emerges (completely out of his control), the studio fires him, and he loses money and contracts (the wheel goes down). Instead of sinking into alcohol, the actor understands that this is a natural cycle. He creates his own niche theater, through which he earns the respect of art connoisseurs from a completely different angle. Instead of spinning with the wheel, the actor stands in its still, quiet center, realizing that status is just an illusion and a role to play.
